It was common for a child to have bad dreams. But having nightmares occasionally can cause your child to become ill. Little children don't understand the reason of their dreaming, the more they don't understand nightmares haunting them during their sleep with grotesque appearance of a man-eating beast looking at them.
With this condition, you should give more time for your child. Because of his early age, it is better for your child to sleep with you in a room so that he has confidence in his mind that you can protect him when he is afraid.
When child 's condition worsened by many episode of bad dreams, see a doctor. Before going to bed turn the lights on so that he can see the room that you are beside him. Before sleeping, give him a comforting hug to assure him that there's nothing to be afraid of and what he sees in his dream is not real.
Ask him what he was dreaming about so that you can give a better idea on how to assure him about his fears. Whatever distressing image he had seen can be explain to him in details. Tell him that you will protect him and ready to defend him against those monsters.
Show calmness and be gentle. Don't reprimand him if he insisted seeing bothering images as not to add more to his fears.
Don't allow your child to see those pictures about monsters in books and magazines or other pictures that will help the reason to dream. Any bad images can penetrate easily into his subconscious mind of what he has seen was true.
Do not allow your child to see a monster-type episode in the TV. There were other educational programs helpful for self and confidence building.
Bad dream was based on child's belief and experiences. If something was wrong, attend to it at once. Don't delay, it may cause psychological problem later on. Be sensitive to his feeling. Give your child a peaceful environment free from all his fears and anxieties.
